“Building the Just City in Tanzania: Essays on Urban Housing” is a collection of articles authored by Albert Nyiti, Felician Komu, Maria Carrizosa, Tim Ndezi, Tatu Limbumba and Tumsifu Jonas Nnkya. In end-2021, these members of the Just City Platform (JCP) Tanzania – an independent, a multi-disciplinary coalition of academia, civil society organization and trade union members, as well as urban practitioners – came up with the idea to create a repository on housing in rapidly urbanizing Tanzania. The book highlights housing as a sensitive urban issue that calls for public participation and a multi-sectoral response. The publication which is guided by a political-economy approach seeks to kick-start debates for bold housing action as a central focus of Tanzania’s national agenda.
