Tax Justice conference calls to close loopholes for loss of public resources
Since 2016 Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Public Services International (PSI) affiliates, in collaboration with other stakeholders, have been running a campaign on Tax Justice in the mining sector in Tanzania. The campaign has contributed to reforms in the mining sector and resource mobilisation strategies in the country.
As a continuation of the campaign, FES Tanzania and PSI, ActionAid Tanzania and other CSOs organised a Policy Conference on the 17th & 18th of May 2022 in Dodoma, that brought together government institutions, parliamentarians, Trade Unions, and CSOs working in the area. During the workshop, various issues on how the government is losing in tax revenues were discussed, including the issues of tax incentives given to Multi-nation companies in the mining sector, unjust collection and distribution of tax revenues, debt and its impact on investment in public services.
The call for closing the loopholes that attract loss of public resources was made to ensure effective revenue collection in the mining sector for public funding of quality public services, i.e. education and the health and care economy.
